Art In Action Final Project

Art in action! For the final part of my art in action project I added a poem by D.H. Lawrence called Trees in the Garden!  All put together put together my project is comprised of  • music - my song that I composed taking the poem I wrote and putting it to a simple melody with a harmony. On the top I have pop chord symbols so that it can be played with a guitar or with the baseline piano accompaniment. I also have figured bass on the bottom so that if a key change is needed then I’ll know what chords to play in the desired key. I also enjoyed the change from minor to the relative major key that I ended up using in the piece (they share the same key signature but the piece begins in minor and switches to major).   • art - the drum/shaker that I made using recycled materials. I painted the top but I ended up putting sheet music around the drum instead of having the sides painted.   • and theater - the poem that I chose which would be read as a monologue. I ch...

Sonatina I by Kuhlau

Image
Sonatina I Op. 20 No. 1 by Friedrich Kuhlau! This sonatina has been so fun to learn. I love the middle section that sounds very stormy and reminds me of Beethoven. But then it returns to the main, happy, theme! I plan on playing this piece for my piano jury once the tempo is polished up!

June - Tchaikovsky

Image
The full version of June by Tchaikovsky from The Seasons! This piece has been one of my favorites to learn and I plan on playing it for my piano jury once a few areas are polished up. I picked this piece because the first time I sight read it, I fell in love with the ominous, melancholy, atmosphere of the piece. The bass line reminds me of rolling ocean waves, and the right hand melody feels very cloudy. In my book, there is a short poem/quote above the piece below the title. It reads, “Let us go to the shore; there the waves will kiss our legs. With mysterious sadness the stars will shine down in us.” - A. Pleshcheyer

Art In Action part 2

Image
For the second part of my art in action project I have to incorporate art into my theme “Earth Day”. The first element I used was music. For art, I made a shaker/drum out of a recycled container (filled with beans) and painted the top and sides. One of my friends also made a can-jo out of recycled materials and I wanted to incorporate that too! My thought process here is, since my discipline is music therapy, if working with kids doing an Earth Day theme, they can work on songs about earth, and decorate/use recycled material instruments. The first part of my project goes with this second part by using song writing and making instruments around the Earth Day theme.

Completed piece - Old French Song by Tchaikovsky

Image
I played this piece for my piano jury last semester from memory. It’s such a pretty short piece and I love the phrasing in the melody.

Completed piece - Nocturne by Martha Mier

Image
This is a piece I played for a recital about a year ago. I love the nocturne style, and this piece has such a mysterious sound to it that I love. It was so much fun to learn to play!

Completed piece - Bach Prelude no. 7

Image
I played this piece last semester for my jury and I love it. It has a lot of technical skills involved like many of Bach’s pieces. This is a short technical Prelude no. 7 that I have memorized.
